Greetings! This is my first entry on the Pinnacle Musical Experience Project (that's PMEP for all you acronym fans out there), and I am both nervous and exhilarated by the possibilities of this project.
First, I want to make very clear that this is a collaborative effort that encourages and depends upon input, stories, complaints, criticisms, visions, hopes and aspirations of anyone and everyone who loves music and wants to participate.
Next, I will briefly lay out the intention of the project--this will hopefully be the part where you get excited to contribute (if you've already contributed, you will be able to find postings of your response on this page).
This idea began when a friend and I began trying to list for each other our top musical memories, whether we were at a house party with some fantastic DJ or live band, or were having a hippie jam on the beach or an impromptu sing along in a living room. We wanted to have a list because these moments had been so "pinnacle" in our memories that they continued to inspire us toward more similar experiences. We thought too, that perhaps by hearing these stories from as many kinds of people we could we could tap into what traits these rare occurrences share for musician and non-musician alike, and further, to create a tapestry of stories of people's love of music.
Too often in our society, the only people who get to speak about the things they love are celebrities, whose lives are isolated from the common human experience by their extreme wealth. This site seeks a more egalitarian, democratic, artistic, humanistic, and perhaps radical (depending upon where you sit on the political spectrum) relationship. And by relationship, I mean, to all that you encounter in life: people, cars, music, sorrow, bagels, weeds on the side of the road...This project wants your story of your pinnacle musical experience, please share it. Were you driving down a Texas highway during a lightning storm and a song came on the radio that took you somewhere? Or perhaps you had too much to drink and rocked the karaoke bar into a new dimension...Or was it that nebulous groove that was in B major and minor at the same time with the Radiohead/drum machine beat...? You tell us...
